Elisabeth Guigou, French Deputy and former Justice Minister, has said that the "swine flu" pandemic is being used as a pretext to generate fear and impose "emergency" laws that "negate democratic principles".
In an interview in the French media, Guigou said that secret orders being circulated by the French government to the heads of courts instructing them to strip people of their fundamental rights in the event of a pandemic constitute "measures that are in flagrant contradiction" to the Constitution.
